Drains are generally painful during movement. There is also a higher chance for infection because the bacteria can travel up into the wound from the drain sites.

Liposuction, combined with abdominoplasty, removes bulges above the umbilicus, sides of the abdomen and hip rolls, resulting in a youthful looking abdomen.

With regular abdominoplasty, lymphatic channels and neurovasculair structures are interrupted. Drains are necessary for up to two weeks, until they heal. In the drain free technique, liposuction combined with abdominoplasty removes unwanted fat bulges preserving the majority of lymphatics and neurovascular structures draining naturally, needing no drains.

The procedure can be safely performed if the contouring is confined to the area below the umbilicus. Liposuction of the back and hip rolls is not an issue for smokers. However, we recommend our patients stop smoking at least four weeks prior to the procedure.
